Q: What do I wear on the boat?
A: Dress for the weather. Most of the year Florida is very warm but during winter it can get cold. Early mornings can be chilly as well. Remember that it will always feel much colder while the boat is moving due to the wind. We always recommend to bring a light jacket. If it is warm out feel free to wear a bathing suit. Also make sure to bring a hat and sunglasses (polarized are best).
Q. What if it is supposed to rain?
A: If the forecast predicts heavy rain and lightning all day then the trip will most likely be rescheduled or cancelled. Most rainstorms in Florida, however, pass by very quickly and can be managed around. We have a lot of experience dealing with Florida storms and put your safety first. The captain will check in prior to the trip to discuss weather conditions and see what you are comfortable with.
Q: Do I have to have any fishing experience?
A: No, you do not need to have any experience. Any age or skill level is welcome! If it is your first time fishing the captain will give you a quick lesson on the basics and how to cast. It is very simple and most people catch on super quick. No matter your skill level the captain will make sure you get to experience some action.
Q: What time do we leave the dock?
A: The captain usually leaves a different time everyday depending on the weather and the tide so it usually varies anywhere from 7am-10am. This area has incredibly low tides and the captain will request to leave late morning only if he‘s waiting on the tide to come in. Sometimes the captain will also have to work around weather and leave at a later time to wait out storms. If you have specific time constraints let the captain know and we will do our best to accommodate. We offer morning, afternoon, and evening charters! The captain will make contact with you a couple days before the trip to let you know what time he would like you at the dock. It is hard to know a time super far in advance when it relies so heavily on weather and the tide.
Q: Do you accept credit card?
A: No, we do not accept credit cards at this time. We accept cash or check as well as Venmo if you need to use a credit card.
Q: Are alcoholic beverages allowed on board?
A: Yes, as long as you are of age you can bring beer or wine coolers on board. CANS ONLY, NO GLASS.
Q. Should I be tipping the captain?
A. Yes, just like any service industry tips are appreciated if you feel that the captain did a great job taking care of you. 15-20% is a general rule of thumb.
Q. Do I have to bring a phone or camera on board?
A. If you would like to bring a phone or camera feel free. If you do not want to no worries as the captain will be able to take pictures of all your catches and will be able to send them to you at the end of the trip. Charter pictures are also normally posted on Silver Lining Sport Fishing social media accounts. No GPS devices allowed.
Q. What type of bait do we use?
A. Socrates uses both live and artificial bait during his charters. A lot of his success comes from him catching all his own bait which is key to catching bigger fish. Socrates does also use artificial baits like soft plastics, top water plugs, etc.
