Captain Socrates is a licensed and insured USCG captain. He has been fishing since he was a very young boy with his father. His passion started with fishing for trophy bass, traveling to many different rivers and lakes in the central Florida area. His father gifted him his first boat when he was 10 years old. When he was 12 years old he was introduced to the world of saltwater fishing. His father hired a fishing guide and they spent the day sight fishing red fish. From this point Socrates knew he has hooked, and wanted to learn everything he could. In 2009 Socrates's father, Captain George, purchased a Parker offshore boat. Socrates accompanied his father on countless offshore middle ground trips fishing for grouper, snapper, and other pelagic species. In 2011, his father purchased a home in Crystal River, knowing that one day Socrates would fulfill his dream and become a guide. Since then, Socrates has spent countless hours both inshore and offshore fishing. He is very involved with the fishing community and is well respected by his fellow charter captains. His passion, knowledge, experience, and charismatic personality make him the perfect guy for the job. He has put in over 15 years worth of work and finding spots to make sure you catch fish!
Socrates loves sharing his passion by putting others on fish and watching their excitement as they reel them in. His eyes light up any time he is able to talk fishing. He is an amazing teacher and is extremely patient. Whether you are an experienced angler or a first timer he will make sure you get to experience some action. Although he is young, he is extremely experienced from years on the water. He is very outgoing, personable, and full of life. Catching fish is of course the number one priority but Socrates would love to show you the wildlife and scenery that make Crystal River so special as well.
Socrates specializes in sight fishing tailing redfish in the back county as well as fly fishing. His other main specialty fish include snook and tarpon. There are many guides that can take you redfishing but snook and tarpon are harder species to master. Socrates personally likes to target "trophy" overslot fish rather than focusing on filling the cooler, but will of course allow you to keep fish if they are legal. If you are after the big once-in-a-lifetime type of fish, then Socrates is definitely your guy - That is what he is known for.
The boat we use is a custom 20ft SeaArk powered by a Yamaha SHO 115 HP that can comfortably fish 1-3 anglers. This boat is equipped with a large tunnel, jack plate, and 4 blade prop which allows us to travel across extremely shallow flats and creeks. This is often required to get back to fish that see very little pressure or during extreme low tides. This boat also has a removable Bimini top that can easily be put on for stormy days or during the brutal heat of the summer. On board there is a 21ft carbon push pole that is used while approaching spooky fish or when sight fishing tailing redfish. This boat has the latest electronics from Garmin including side imaging and a Minn Kota Terrova iPilot trolling motor with spot lock that enables us to get close to the fish without being detected. It is also equipped with a power-pole and two live wells to carry bait. It is fitted with all US Coast Guard regulated safety equipment and has ample room for storage and cooler space for your fish, food, and drinks.
